Forever Paws Animal Shelter
came into existence nearly seven years ago when its founder, Joy Bannister, a
local animal control officer, recognized the need for a special place from which
unclaimed, abandoned and abused animals could be adopted. She took her life
savings and began building a place for homeless animals behind her brother's
factory building. With the help of volunteers she erected a metal building for
offices and indoor crates for puppies and animals that need socialization.
Outside there was a complex of 24 indoor/outdoor kennels and a large run.
In the year 2003, Forever Paws moved into a brand new shelter building with 40
large indoor/outdoor runs, a separate living space for cats and old and infirm
animals, an education room and more!! Forever Paws volunteers and employees have
worked hard all spring and summer to build this shelter from scratch on a
generously donated parcel of land in southern Fall River. Forever Paws could not
have realized this dream without the generous help of our loyal donors and
friends! We will continue to need your help as we finish our new building and
make room for a large number of lost, abandoned and abused pets before the
cold weather comes!

is very proud of our high pet-adoption rates.
Petfinder.org has been a wonderful recent asset to the shelter in increasing
the speed and geographic scope of our adoptions. Every effort is made to place
our animals in loving homes.
We make a great effort to rehabilitate animals through behavioral training,
veterinary care, and loving attention. We will begin to implement an enhanced
dog-training program at our new shelter. Our personal attention to each animal
makes all the difference in their lives and makes us a different sort of animal
shelter. A loving "thank you" to all our friends for your continued support.
Our
new building is now complete! We are accepting owner turn-ins of
dogs and cats. (Remember to have written proof of up-to-date rabies vaccines
if you want to surrender an animal!) We are also serving as the official
animal shelter for the town of Westport, MA.

We are very pleased with the new kennels - especially now that all floors are heated!! This will keep our dogs nice and cozy during the long winter months. We have many wonderful cats and kittens already at the shelter, so if you're looking for a special feline pal come and pay us a visit or check the Pet List for photos of these cuties!
